What is an extended warranty?
Extended service contracts are typically referred to as extended warranties.
They are generally a promise to pay the repair facility that has failed or worn
beyond the manufacturer's tolerances. Extended warranties are typically
provided by a dealership or by a third-party warranty company.
Can I cancel my extend warranty and receive a reasonable pro-rated
refund?
In the event that you do not use the entire term of your extended warranty and
would like to cancel the contract or trade-in your vehicle to a dealership, you
are entitled by law to a pro-rated refund of the unused portions. Most extended
warranty companies in the industry use time, miles, and/or claims in
determining your pro-rated refund. Many automobile manufacturers also have
administrative fees that are deducted from the final value of your refund.
How do I qualify for a refund?
There are several ways you can qualify for a refund.
Firstly,
- You must have purchased an extended warranty (also known as a service contract) for your vehicle, or
- You purchased a vehicle from another private party that had an extended warranty on it. Warranties are transferrable in private party transactions.
Secondly,
- You must still own the vehicle, or
- You sold the car to a dealership (or traded it in for another car) before the warranty term expired.
How long does it take to get my refund?
WarrantyRefund.com is usually able to get your refund within 15 business days.
If you were to do it yourself, it could typically take up to 3 months to get
your refund, not to mention the countless hours spent dealing with
administrators of warranty service providers who have been known to be
reluctant to assist you in matters of issuing a refund.
How much does this service cost?
WarrantyRefund.com retains 33% of any refund that is recovered on your behalf.
If you are not eligible to receive a refund (or, in the unlikely case that we
are unable to retrieve your refund) you will be charged nothing. We do not
ask for your credit card, or any of your personal financial information.
What does the law say about canceling an extended warranty?
Every state has a law that gives you the right to cancel your extended warranty
before it expires and receive a pro-rated refund.
For example, California Civil Code Section 1794.41, states that, "if you have
owned an extended auto warranty contract for more than 60 days, your
cancellation right (at the time of trade-in/sale to a dealer) entitles you to a
pro-rated refund from the warranty provider based on elapsed time and/or
mileage, regardless of whether you have filed a claim or not.
Why should I use WarrantyRefund.com to get my refund?
The warranty refund process has many roadblocks and frustrations for an
individual to navigate. Dealerships and warranty providers all have different
forms, and different procedures that must be followed. Individuals at these
companies show reluctance and disinterest in sharing information on how to go
about getting a refund. On top of this, the speed and ease with which you get
your refund may depend on several other factors out of your control:
-
How fast the Finance person sends the paperwork to the dealership's office.
Often they will hold the paperwork for a while; because once the refund is
processed it means a charge back against the Finance person's commissions, as
well as against a salesperson's commissions.
-
How fast the dealership office processes the paperwork to the warranty company.
If they have an office manager who is really looking out for the dealer, he or
she might delay on processing the paperwork because once it's completed it
means a charge back to the dealer!
-
How fast the warranty company wants to refund your money!
If getting your refund were easy, we wouldn’t be in business.

have already helped thousands of customers get a refund on their extended
warranty residual, most within 15 days of submitting their request (not 2-3
months).
So let us take the worry and headache out of getting your refund. Just fill in
the simple step by step questionnaire, and WarrantyRefund.com will do the rest.
Safe, simple, and fast.
What personal information do I have to give you?
We collect no personal information at all in our questionnaire. You will not be asked to enter your social security number, drivers license or credit card information. The only information we collect is used to contact you and research your automobile warranty refund.
Why do I have to sign a Limited Power of Attorney?
Once you fill out the online application, you must sign a limited power of
attorney form before we can start the process. The limited power of attorney
gives us authority to file the warranty cancellation paperwork for you. Once
your refund is secured we will send it to you immediately, less
WarrantyRefund.com's fee.
Is this for real? / Does this really work?
We have processed many warranty cancellations and given back thousands of
dollars to our customers. Refunds average about $500! The biggest refund we've
ever obtained for a client was $2,840.00 for a client in Redondo Beach, CA. In
other words - Yes!
- this works.
Are extended warranties transferrable?
Yes! If you have purchased a car with an extended warranty from a private party, that warranty is transferable to the new owner. However, private party sellers can also cash in on the remaining value of their car’s refund prior to sale by using WarrantyRefund.com.
